On October 16, with the enthusiastic support of students from Freiburg’s Friedrich Gymnasium as part of their Environmental Day, we planted 300 trees.
A total of 21 students from a 10th-grade class and the upper school, full of interest, motivation, and enthusiasm, ensured that cherry, serviceberry, Douglas fir, and sweet chestnut trees joined the natural regeneration of fir trees that was already underway in some areas on this beautiful, sunny autumn day. After an introduction from us and explanations about the forest and planting from forester Leo Klotz, the students rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Once the work was done and they had a quick snack, they hiked back down into the valley. Hats off to them!
A heartfelt thank you goes to the CORDES & GRAEFE Foundation, which made this project possible, and to all the supporters on the site.

This fall, the forester and the forest owner discovered a large amount of beetle-infested wood here, which is why the trees in this spruce monoculture had to be cut down.
